CHADD Remarks & Keynote | AuDHD: When Two Neurodevelopmental Worlds Collide
Description

What happens when ADHD and autism coexist in the same person? AuDHD is not simply two diagnoses added together. The two neurodevelopmental profiles can amplify one another, mask one another, or pull a person in apparently contradictory directions - creating patterns that are easily misunderstood by families, schools, workplaces and services.

Drawing on clinical experience and expert consensus, Professor Susan Young will explore why AuDHD is often missed, particularly when people are articulate, successful, masking or presenting with mental health difficulties. She will show how the same behaviour can have very different meanings, why environment and life transitions matter, and what better assessment and support can look like. Whether you live with AuDHD, support someone who does, or work in health or education, the session will provide a practical framework for seeing beyond the label, understanding the whole person and building support that works in real life.
