Name
Oops I Did It Again: ADHD, Emotions & Impulsive Spending
Description
Impulsive spending is one of the most financially and emotionally costly — yet under-addressed — challenges facing adults with ADHD, and one that clinicians and coaches frequently encounter but may feel underprepared to address. This session introduces a practical, evidence-informed framework for understanding how emotional and contextual factors drive impulsive spending, and presents the Emotional/Impulsive Spending Log — an original assessment tool developed in financial therapy practice — for identifying individualized spending patterns. Attendees will explore two distinct intervention pathways informed by pattern data, as well as strategies for addressing the relational dynamics that often accompany impulsive spending, including shame, financial infidelity, and power imbalances in couples. Attendees will leave with a copy of the Log and permission to use it with their own clients.
