Once I Get Started: Motivational Strategies for Adult ADHD
Description
Adult ADHD is increasingly understood as a performance problem, an intention deficit that makes it difficult to start and follow through on plans despite the desire to do so. This session will focus on strategies drawn from cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) adapted for adult ADHD designed to generate motivation, define plans in doable ways, and increase implementation of various intentions and endeavors related to various duties and responsibilities as well as those that promote overall well-being and fulfillment. As part of this process, the session will address the role of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationship factors that may interfere with follow-through and how each of these factors can be refashioned to promote follow-through on intentions and seeing them through to completion.
