What Do I Do Next? Lessons from Decision Science
Description
Life is full of a million decisions about what to do next. There’s a never-ending flood of responsibilities, distractions, and temptations that hit our attention as we navigate our days. How do we balance all these competing demands and figure out what to do next—and then actually follow through with that plan? Every person in today’s information-saturated world struggles with this and ADHD only makes it harder to filter through the constant noise. Let’s begin with getting clear on your bigger goals—what is most important to you? Clear goals guide effective action. Then let’s apply concepts from decision science to resist the pull of the easy, tempting, or just plain shiny options that hijack our attention and intentions, in order to persist on the tasks that will actually make your life better. Temporal Motivation Theory predicts what people will do; more importantly, it also tells us specifically what to do to change what we do. This engaging, practical presentation will not only help you understand why you sometimes struggle to get going, but will also give you a framework and specific strategies to more successfully manage the demands of your day.
