Name
Stop the People-Pleasing, Self-Doubt & Perfectionism! ADHD & Our Self-Esteem
Description
Research shows that adults with ADHD will tend to experience lower self-esteem than the general population. It starts in childhood: the constant negativity and criticism from educators, parents, peers…later our partners, bosses – and along the way the disempowering internal ‘stories’ formed that become our automatic references when challenges arise. Those stories turn into self-doubt, people-pleasing, perfectionism, procrastination and more. In this Interactive Workshop, the presenter shares his own history of low self-esteem and its manifestations as a child, adolescent and adult – to help participants “connect the dots” between their own experiences and the impact on their self-esteem. They’ll further connect those dots by learning: 1) The many sources of self-esteem – from our DNA to our life events to cognitive distortions. 2) Why ADHD adults struggle more with low self-esteem and the consequences thereof (self-doubt, perfectionism, people-pleasing, etc.). 3) Two evidence-based exercises that chip away at negative self-beliefs and strengthen self-image and confidence. Finally, participants will engage these exercises in real time to actually begin disarming negative stories and build empowering new ones. We can build our self-esteem. This workshop, led by a presenter who focuses on simple, learn-it-today/do-it-tomorrow insights and solutions, can put you on that path.
