Name
The Uncanny Likeness Between Giftedness and ADHD
Description
Does your child struggle with homework yet debate like a philosopher? Start five projects but finish none? Melt down over small frustrations yet discuss complex ideas for hours? Giftedness and ADHD share striking similarities, often leaving parents confused about what is ability, what is neurodevelopmental difference, and what is environmental mismatch. This session clarifies the overlap and the differences—without minimizing either. Grounded in current ADHD research and contemporary gifted frameworks, we will explore how intensity, asynchronous development, executive function challenges, and overexcitabilities interact. Parents will learn how expectations that are too high—or too low—impact motivation, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. Participants will leave with practical, strength-based tools to: • Reduce shame • Reframe challenging behaviors • Anticipate triggers • Adjust environments • Advocate effectively in school settings If you have ever wondered, “Is this giftedness, ADHD, or both?”—this session will provide clarity and concrete next steps.
