Name
Bridging the Gap: ADHD Medication, Resistance, and Couples Therapy
Description
When ADHD is present in a committed relationship, medication decisions do not happen in a vacuum. They affect communication, trust, shared expectations, and the emotional safety of the couple. Yet most therapists and prescribers work in separate silos, leaving couples to navigate the gap on their own. This interdisciplinary session, co-presented by a couples therapist and a psychiatric nurse practitioner, introduces a coordinated model for assessing ADHD, approaching medication, and integrating treatment into couples therapy. Attendees leave with a greater understanding of why a coordinated approach is advantageous for everyone, a 3-step model to achieve the best results, clinical language, practical workflows, and specific strategies for addressing resistance in ways that reduce blame and keep the relationship at the center of care.
