Name
Awareness to Action: Closing Policy Gaps- ADHD Across the Lifespan
Description
ADHD awareness has grown dramatically in recent decades, but awareness alone does not change systems. Across the lifespan, individuals with ADHD continue to encounter policy gaps that shape their experiences in schools, healthcare systems, workplaces, and the justice system. These gaps contribute to delayed diagnosis, inconsistent accommodations, barriers to treatment, and inequitable outcomes. Although ADHD is well established as a neurodevelopmental condition, public policies and institutional practices often lag behind the science, leaving critical support systems incomplete or inaccessible. This panel presentation, organized by the Advocacy and Public Policy Committee of CHADD, will examine how policy decisions shape everyday experiences for people with ADHD, from classrooms and doctors' offices to workplaces and the justice system. Through real-world examples and policy analysis, participants will gain insight into the lived experiences behind policy shortcomings and learn practical strategies for influencing policy change at local, state, and national levels. By the end of the session, attendees will be better prepared to translate awareness into action, using their roles as educators, clinicians, researchers, advocates, parents or community members, to help advance policies that improve outcomes for individuals with ADHD.
