Poster Session | When an ADHD Professor Builds Neuroinclusive Learning Spaces Pre-Diagnosis...
Description

This poster session discusses what my university-level neuroinclusive learning spaces entailed and breaks down what true neuroinclusion embodies (it’s not just extra time on tests). As a seasoned educator with over 25 years of experience and a former tenured associate humanities professor, I had no idea I was ADHD or dyslexic during the 17 years I spent at my last job. However, both of my children had diagnoses, and I witnessed the system fail them and many of my students who had accommodations in place time and time again. Themes will include dismantling gatekeeping and bias by citing invisible barriers that keep neurodivergent students from thriving, practical ways to integrate choice, flexibility, and accessibility into a college classroom, and upgrading, among other potential actionable strategies. This presentation seeks to move educators in any context from empowering allies to compassionate accomplices and change agents who prioritize intersectional neurodiversity within the DEI paradigm. It also aims to support parents navigating their kids' education at any phase. I offer my perspective as both a parent of two grown AuDHD kids as well as a neurodivergent educator who desperately needed accommodations.
