Research shows that optimal, multimodal treatment of ADHD including use of medication where appropriate is essential for the overall health and wellness of those of us with this condition. However, finding and managing the optimal medication regimen can often be easier said than done. In this session, we will walk through the current stimulant and non-stimulant medications that are most commonly used to treat ADHD looking at how they work and why we use them. We will discuss the similarities and differences amongst these medications, current guidelines for the use of medication in the treatment of ADHD, how to get started, and what to expect. We will discuss and dispel some of the key myths and misconceptions surrounding these medications that are some of our greatest barriers to care.
