Name
Pre-Conference Workshop | Parenting as Leadership - Why ADHD Kids Need a Leader Not a Boss, & How to Do It
Description
Raising a child with ADHD can be challenging, especially if you have ADHD too! And as the challenges grow, so does the stress level, causing parents to default to bossing their kids around rather than leading them. It’s a mistake many of us fall into, and one that only makes things harder - increasing the conflict at home, doing damage to the parent/child relationship, and making it harder to see the big picture.
In this session, we will discuss reasons why ADHD parents fall into the “Boss Trap”, and ways to get out of it, or avoid it altogether. We will explore the roles emotional safety and anxiety play in the boss/leader parenting dynamic, as well as ways ADHD makes parental leadership both more important and potentially harder to do. We will also explore strategies to make it easier to be a leader rather than boss when parenting our ADHD kids. The workshop is appropriate for all parents, whether they have ADHD, their kids have ADHD, or both.
